About Me and My Paintings

What Inspires You?

My artistic inspiration is broad, but frequently I’m inspired by nature or by encounters with other people. I keep a journal and write down snippets of the day that stand out for me. It might be as simple as a conversation or a feeling being in good company. Months or even years later I might want to express with paint my memory of that occasion. Often it’s the sounds I associate with it that I’m recreating in oils. Sometimes I paint in response to music or poetry.

Did you study fine art at university?

Actually, my undergraduate degree was in law! I went on to complete two Master’s degrees after that as I was fascinated by medical law. After my training though I changed path and worked for several years heading up the Public Relations teams in different London firms. Eventually I realised I really wanted to pursue a creative life. I made the switch a few years ago and have never looked back.

What materials do you use?

I use a variety of oil paints, but I prefer Michael Harding paints. There’s something wonderfully ‘bright’ about the colours, they really are one of the finest. I prefer painting on panels and occasionally paint on aluminium. I have recently tried painting on copper panels, which I like very much. I feel it gives a burnished quality to the completed piece.

What about your painting process?

As I mentioned above, I keep a written journal, but I also keep a visual notebook. I use a ‘watercolour journal’ to keep track of interesting colours and forms. Once that has dried I write other recollections directly on the watercolour paintings. For me, it’s a great way of keeping track, and it’s a cathartic way to process my day. It may be many months later that I use these as reference materials for an abstract oil painting.

Do you offer prints as well as originals?

I do offer high-quality prints as well as original paintings. Please send me an email and I can then find out exactly what you’re looking for in terms of dimensions and turnaround time.

Purchasing

Do you take commissions?

I do take commissions, but it’s worth emailing me well in advance of when you need the painting. This is both a practical issue, in terms of me understanding what you are looking for, completing the painting, and letting the oil paint dry!

Equally, there are times when my commission diary closes for a while. This could be because of other commissions, or because I am preparing for an exhibition.

What’s your return policy?

I always want buyers to be thrilled with their purchases, but if you change your mind, you can return the painting in its original condition within a fortnight of receiving it for a refund. The buyer would be responsible for the cost of returning the piece and the painting must be in perfect condition.

Where do you ship to?

I ship internationally to most countries, so in the first instance, please send me an email to discuss the work you’re interested in and we can take it from there.

Do you work with galleries?

I am always open to working with galleries, whether here in the United Kingdom, or abroad. Please send me an email to discuss working with your gallery.
