I’m a British artist creating abstract paintings infused with poetry, rhythm and emotion.

When it comes to artistic inspiration, I’m fascinated by how our perception changes over time. My art focuses on memories, encounters and recollected sounds.

It means much of my inspiration comes from music, poetry, and memories of sounds. A simple walk along the coast might be the basis of a painting. I will try and retrieve that memory, with a particular focus on the sound of lapping waves, the call of seabirds or the breeze.

My aim as an abstract artist is to recreate the sense of that memory in oil paint.

My Latest Painting

This is my latest painting completed in January this year. Swelling Strings, Lark Ascending (2026) measures 18x18x1” and is oil on wooden panel. I continue to be inspired by music and for this piece I wanted to explore a particularly uplifting section of the Vaughan Williams classic.

I’m a self-taught artist and first started painting in 2000. At the time I was training to be a lawyer, but I was obsessed with art and the history of art. In my spare time I would spend hours going to galleries in cities near me, such as Oxford, Birmingham and London, just drinking in the brushstrokes of great artists and learning by looking.

I knew my future wasn’t in law, and although I worked in London law firms for several years specialising in PR, my passion was always creativity.

After a period of ill health, I knew that I had to prioritise my own wellbeing and I finally became the artist I was meant to be. I have never regretted that decision. In fact, I appreciate the freedom to create now so much more having once experienced a ‘corporate life’.
