After Reading Heaney, Digging

£875

The great poet Seamus Heaney once wrote a poem entitled, Digging. Published in his collection, Death Of A Naturalist in 1966, I remember first hearing the poem at school, read by our wonderful headmaster who himself hailed from Northern Ireland. To hear such a subtle yet powerful piece of writing read by someone with the accent was a revelation, and I have never forgotten it.

All these years later, I have tried to encapsulate the feeling of first hearing the poem read aloud, with its subtle rhythms and echoes, its nostalgic and melancholic sensibilities.

Remembered as: alliterative poetry / cadence / Irish brogue
