Pear Blossom I

The seeds of this painting were planted when I walked in the grounds of Kew Gardens one Spring morning. The sky was pastel blue which was the perfect complement for the blossoms flowering in profusion in many areas of the gardens.

My work is frequently inspired by the memory of sound and this painting is a great example of my process. I noted the birdsong, the sounds of the breeze in the trees around me, and the happy chatter of visitors enjoying their day.

It was a sunny, idyllic morning and it inspired me to paint this oil painting with soft pinks and blues, with elements of sweeping white. It’s a deeply romantic painting, which suggests the feeling of hope that Spring offers us during the fleeting blossom season.
