How The North Star Wearies

£530

When I return to this painting, I am always reminded of the stillness and relative silence of dawn. It speaks of steadfastness.

The North Star does not rise and set, rather staying in the same position in the night sky of the Northern Hemisphere. In many ways it’s a reassuring presence, a silent point of navigation for us all.

As I watched it that morning, the light of dawn advancing in the east, the North Star wearied and faded. Yielding to the morning light.

Remembered as: dawn chorus / distant skein of geese / deep breathing
